Victoria (VIC) or the ‘Garden State’ as it is effctionaly known, is in the South-East of Australia, it is the smallest state on the mainland (the Australian Capital Territory is not a state but considered a territory). Victoria has the second largest population after New South Wales. Victoria is home to Australia’s second largest city, Melbourne. Before Europeans settled in Victoria, it was home to a a large collective of Aboriginal people, referred to as the ‘Koori’. At this time, Victoria was actually considered as part of New South Wales, and it did was not until 1836 that the colony separated from New South Wales.

Of the 5.3 million people living in Victoria, 4.17 million of them live in the capital city of Melbourne. The largest demographics of those Victorians born outside of Australia consist of those from the United Kingdom, China, Vietnam, Italy and Greece.

Victoria has a well-renowned manufacturing and agriculture industry going back decades. This accounts for Victoria farmlands growing fruit, vegetables and crops. More than 14 million sheep graze in Victoria, and home to Australia’s best dairy industry. Of Australia’s 3 million dairy cows, 60% are based in Victoria.

Recently, in additional to manufacturing and mining industries in Victoria, energy production in becoming more common, especially in the clean-energy fields.

Queensland’s temperatures can range from cold in winter (Jun – Aug) to scorching hot in the summer months (Dec – Feb). Melbourne has a reputation for regular rain and intermittent cold snaps. Based on the seasons, various sports and activities are available to participate or to spectate. Cricket and surfing/surf lifesaving are really popular sports in Summer and although Victoria is the holy homeland of Aussie Rules, Melbourne has produced very competitive rugby league and rugby union teams. Soccer is incredibly popular, not just among those with European roots, but throughout the extended Australian demographic. Fishing, hiking and camping are all really popular pastimes all year round (but more so in Summer).
